Source note: sources below were checked as of October 11, 2026. Product revisions, local rules and your written quotes control the actual job. Unknown costs stay blank.
Describe your actual operations before discussing coverage
Give the professional the operation as it actually works and as you plan to expand it. An omitted service can make a quote impossible to evaluate.
Services, customers, vehicles and employees
Describe sealcoating, crack treatment, striping, sweeping or paving separately, including property types, work locations, vehicle use, employees and equipment. Record planned changes for discussion before they begin.
Hot materials, subcontractors and public-road work
Disclose hot materials, fuels, subcontracted work and any public-road or specialist activity. Ask how each operation is treated in the proposed documents and which unanswered facts are needed.
Understand general liability terms
General liability is a category of business coverage with terms that must be read in the actual policy. Use the explanation to ask questions, not to select a limit or assume a claim will be paid.
Common concepts, exclusions and completed operations
Ask how bodily injury, property damage, premises/operations and completed-operations concepts apply to the proposal. Ask for the exclusions and endorsements affecting the actual services.
Customer contract requirements are not proof of coverage
A customer requirement states what the customer wants. Ask the licensed professional whether the actual proposed policy and endorsements address it and what evidence can be supplied.
Understand commercial auto and transported equipment
Discuss business vehicle use and equipment separately so transport, trailers and tools are not assumed to be covered by one label.
Business vehicle use and trailers
List owned, leased and used-for-business vehicles, trailers and drivers. Ask how the proposed documents treat attached/detached trailers and loaded equipment in transit.
Equipment/property/inland marine terminology
Ask what property or inland-marine coverage terminology means in the actual quote and where equipment is covered. Record locations, theft/storage questions, valuation and applicable exclusions from the documents.
Rented and borrowed equipment questions
Tell the professional about rentals and borrowed tools. Ask about contract obligations, damage responsibilities and whether the quoted terms address the equipment in the way it will be used.
Understand workers' compensation and state requirements
Workers' compensation requirements depend on the jurisdiction and the operation. Use the state authority and a licensed professional to verify the actual obligations.
Owners, employees and subcontractors
List owners, employees and subcontractors, where they work and what they do. Ask how their status is evaluated and what documentation is needed rather than assuming a label settles coverage.
State authority and licensed professional questions
Find the applicable state workers' compensation authority and insurance department. Ask about the actual operation, eligibility/exemptions, required proof and changes when staff or work locations change.
Read the quote, endorsements and proof of coverage
Compare the documents that were actually supplied. A displayed quote amount or certificate cannot explain all the policy terms.
Limits/deductibles shown in actual documents
Copy proposed limits, deductibles, exclusions, endorsements, effective dates and cost from the actual written quote/policy. No standard premium, deductible, recommended limit or savings range is asserted here.
COI versus policy
A certificate of insurance (COI) is a summary/proof document; the policy and endorsements contain the coverage terms. Have the professional reconcile the certificate request with the actual documents.
Claims and renewal contact record
Record insurer, broker/agent, claims route, renewal contact and where secure documents are kept. Establish who will report a changed service, vehicle, worker or contract requirement.
Keep health benefits separate from business insurance
Business insurance and health-benefit access serve different purposes. Explain each from its own documents without treating membership as an insurance policy.
PaveCare health benefits are not insurance
PaveCare health benefits are a discount program, not health insurance or a replacement for business insurance. The current plan and benefit terms control which services a member can access.
Optional paid household add-on
Household access is an optional paid add-on. A business membership does not automatically enroll employees or grant household access; review the actual enrollment and plan terms.
Organize operation facts and insurance questions
Describe the work
List each pavement service, location, property type, hot-material activity and proposed expansion.
Inventory people and equipment
Record vehicles, trailers, equipment, owners, employees and subcontractors without collecting private identifiers here.
Collect contract questions
Attach actual customer insurance requirements and identify unclear terms or operations.
Request written explanations
Ask a licensed professional to explain the supplied quotes, exclusions, endorsements and proof requirements.
File the decision record
Store actual documents securely and record claims, renewal and operations-change contacts.

Frequently asked questions
What is general liability intended to address?
It generally concerns specified business liability risks such as bodily injury and property damage, subject to the actual policy terms. Ask a licensed professional how the proposed wording applies to your operations.
Why should I disclose all the pavement services I perform?
The professional needs the actual risk facts to discuss suitable documents and exclusions. Describe every service, site type, hot-material task and planned expansion accurately.
What should I ask about trucks, trailers and equipment?
Ask about business vehicle use, drivers, trailers, transit, storage, theft, valuation and rented or borrowed equipment. Record the answer against the actual quote and endorsements.
How do I check workers' compensation requirements?
Open the applicable state workers' compensation authority and ask about the actual owners, workers, subcontractors and work locations. Review the response with a licensed professional.
Is a certificate of insurance the same as the policy?
No. A COI summarizes evidence, while the policy and endorsements contain the terms. Ask the professional to explain differences and any required endorsements.
Does a customer's required limit tell me what to buy?
No. It is one customer contract requirement to review with the professional against the actual policy. This guide does not recommend a limit or guarantee coverage.
Are PaveCare health benefits insurance?
No. PaveCare health benefits are a discount program and are not health insurance. Access depends on the actual plan, and household access is an optional paid add-on.
