How to Choose a Crack Cart and Melter, Stock Parts and Plan Maintenance

Choose the machine from the selected sealant's instructions and your job scope, then build parts and maintenance records for that exact model. A pour cart, a push melter/applicator and a stationary kettle are different equipment decisions.

Before you start

  • A selected sealant with current product/SDS and heating-system requirements.
  • The exact proposed machine, manual revision and transport arrangement.
  • Trained operators and a qualified service contact.

What you will finish with

  • A model/specification comparison tied to published evidence.
  • A matching parts/fit/lead-time register.
  • An operating-hour upkeep log and machine-ready job record.

Source note: sources below were checked as of October 11, 2026. Product revisions, local rules and your written quotes control the actual job. Unknown costs stay blank.

Match the machine to the sealant and the work.

Start with compatibility instead of advertised speed. Obtain the product and equipment instructions and resolve any mismatch before purchase or use.

Cold-applied versus heated products

A compatible cold-applied dispenser is a different setup from a heated sealant system. Specify the actual material and method rather than treating every crack-repair product as kettle-ready.

Direct-fire versus indirect-heated compatibility from the sealant instructions

Use a sealant approved for the selected heating system. The named RynoWorx manuals here specify direct-fire sealants; that does not establish compatibility for another product or machine.

Combined push melter/applicator versus separate kettle and pour cart

Compare where material is heated, transported and applied, who handles each task and which manual governs it. A separate kettle quote may exclude the application cart and support tools.

Capacity, transport, temperature monitoring and operator training

Match the loaded machine, vehicle/payload, instrument and trained operators to the actual work. Manufacturer capacity is not a promise of crew output or daily earnings.

Compare dated costs and included equipment.

Observed manufacturer USD examples as of 2026-10-11: Pavemade lists HOTBOX 10 at $1,429 and HOTBOX 30 at $1,498.29. They are different purchases, not a same-model market range or a complete crack-repair business budget.

Cart, stationary melter and full rig are different purchases

The HOTBOX 10 is a 10-US-gallon push melter/applicator; HOTBOX 30 is a 30-gallon stationary melter. Compare your required application and support equipment as separate lines.

Fuel equipment, application tools, training, freight and tax

Ask exactly which fuel components, tools, setup/training, warranty and delivery items are included. Obtain a final location-specific quote; a posted item price does not settle the total delivered cost.

Parts and downtime reserve in the canonical startup budget

Add matching spares, service, transport and planned downtime to the main budget. No comparable local cart/rig/parts cost range was found, so those ranges are omitted.

Stock the parts that fit your model.

The parts register must show exact fit and who may install the item. A spare gas component is not permission for an untrained repair.

Manual-listed wear parts and common replacements

The RY10MA-V3 with ErgoKit manual lists wheels/bearings, caster/swivel, striker, torch, thermometer and regulator/hose. The RY10MK-PRO diagram also identifies valve/ignition components, thermocouple and burner jet.

Exact part number and serial/version fit

Examples from the RY10MA-V3 rev01 common-parts list: RA-WHL-0026 rear wheel with bearings; RC-BRG-0001 bearing; RC-STK-0001 striker; RC-GCM-0067 thermometer. Confirm each against the machine serial/version before ordering.

Order lead time and critical spare versus qualified-service replacement

Record stock quantity, supplier-confirmed lead time, fit source and authorized installer. Ask the selected cart supplier for its own shoe/valve wear-parts diagram rather than assuming cross-model fit.

Follow the matching maintenance schedule.

The following intervals stay attached to their named model/manual and are source checks, not generic operating instructions. Use the manual's full procedure and a trained operator or qualified service as required.

Before-use, after-use and hour-based work

The RY10MA-V3 rev01 manual identifies before-use checks, draining after use, valve buildup attention every 25 operating hours and thorough control-valve cleaning every 75 hours.

Condition checks where the manual gives no numeric interval

RY10MK-PRO ver01 rev3 calls for before-use gas-system checks and periodic thermometer/kettle checks without a numeric period. Pavemade's HOTBOX 10 FAQ gives approximate cleaning after about five runs; do not convert that to fixed hours.

Log hours, service and defects

Record meter/operating hours, date, manual task reference, condition, responsible person and next due point. A fault can require action before the next scheduled interval.

Stop and use qualified service for restricted repairs

Respect the manual's restricted gas, ignition and structural repairs. Mark defects and release authority in the log; do not bypass a failed check to keep the day's booking.

Follow the matching maintenance schedule.

Keep a machine-ready job record.

Equipment readiness belongs with the scope and quantity record, so a lead can see why a machine is suitable and released.

Chosen sealant/manual revisions, temperature instruments and inspection signoff

Record product, machine/serial, document revisions, approved heating basis, instrument check and readiness signoff. Missing compatibility or inspection evidence goes back to the supplier/service contact.

Transport/storage and hot-material/fuel hazards

Plan secure rated transport, storage and site hazards from the matching instructions and hazard assessment. This record does not supply a substitute heating, leak-testing or repair procedure.

Link equipment readiness to the bid and job packet

Include selected machine costs and limitations in the bid and place the current parts/upkeep/readiness record in the crew packet. Change the schedule when readiness is not confirmed.

Build a model-specific parts and upkeep record

  1. Identify machine and material

Record the exact machine/serial and selected sealant with current compatibility instructions.

  2. Save published documents

Retain the matching operator manual, parts diagram and supplier/service contact.

  3. List matching parts

Enter part number, serial/version fit source, needed quantity, lead time and authorized installer.

  4. Transfer the schedule

Copy the matching before/after-use, hours or condition tasks with source sections; leave unstated intervals unstated.

  5. Prepare the log

Add operating hours, defects, service dates, next due point and release responsibility.

  6. Attach readiness to the job

Include current inspection/compatibility signoff with the bid and crew packet.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate melter and pour cart?

It depends on the product, scope and selected equipment system. Compare a combined push unit with a separate kettle/applicator as complete documented setups.

How do I check that a sealant fits my machine?

Match the exact product's heating/application requirements with the machine manual and get written clarification for a conflict.

Which replacement parts should I stock?

Use the selected model's parts diagram, serial fit and supplier lead times. Separate operator-replaceable spares from components needing qualified service.

How often should I clean the valve and kettle?

Use the matching manual's hours or condition schedule. The named examples on this page are not universal intervals.

Can I leave material in the machine after a job?

Follow the selected manual and product instructions. The named RynoWorx manuals require draining after use; do not transfer that instruction to an undocumented model.

Which repairs need qualified service?

Use the manual's restricted-repair list. The named RynoWorx warnings restrict gas, ignition and structural repairs; spare parts do not authorize untrained work.

What would support a PaveStrong equipment advantage?

A current published PaveStrong specification/manual and an equivalent documented comparison. No such published equipment source was found, so this guide asserts no advantage.
