Confirm eligibility and the real business identity.
A contractor who travels to customers may qualify as a service-area business. Use the actual business and operating location, and check Google's current representation rules before creating a profile.
Actual operating location and customer contact
Use the real name consistently shown in your business records and branding. Keep a phone and website you control, and verify who owns any existing profile.
Service-area business versus storefront
If customers are not served at your address, follow Google's service-area guidance and hide the address. A storefront description requires an actual eligible customer-facing location.
No virtual-office or duplicate-profile shortcuts
A mailing address alone does not establish an eligible office. Do not create duplicate town profiles to cover the same operation; separate-location eligibility depends on the real operation.
Set up and verify the profile through Google.
Prepare the accurate field checklist, then complete the verification option Google gives this profile. Options are selected by Google and may differ between businesses.
Current verification methods
Open Google's current verification help and the profile's Get verified flow. Use only the offered route and keep verification codes private; no universal method or completion time is promised.
Address visibility and service areas
Check the displayed address and the actual areas served after saving. Keep private residential information out of customer-facing text when operating as a service-area business.
Honest categories, services, hours and contact details
Choose the current categories that accurately describe the core business. Enter only real services and customer-facing hours, and test the phone/site links yourself.
Add helpful evidence of actual work.
Build the profile record alongside your website brief so the same business and services appear consistently.
Permission-cleared photos
Use recent, truthful photos with permission. A crew/equipment picture should reflect your actual operation, and a work picture should identify your role without disclosing a customer's private details.
Accurate services and quote process
Explain whether you provide sealcoating, crack repair, restriping or another actual scope. State how customers request an inspection; do not promise work beyond your training or approved layout.
Keeping information current
Assign one responsible person to check contact details, seasonal hours and service changes. Save dated edits so an unexplained change can be investigated.
Ask customers for honest reviews.
Send the same neutral request to genuine customers without screening them for whether they will be positive.
Direct link/QR and a simple request
Use Google's review-link/QR route. Suggested text: Thank you for choosing [business]. If you wish, please share an honest review of your experience at [Google review link]. Your feedback helps us improve.
No incentives, review gating or selective positive-only requests
Do not offer a discount or gift for a review, a change or removal. Do not send unhappy customers only to a private feedback form while directing happy ones to Google.
No staff/family/fake accounts posing as customers
Do not manufacture reviews or use accounts that conceal a conflict of interest. Real feedback is evidence; a bought review count is not.
Measure local visibility without guarantees.
Use the profile as a way for a suitable customer to reach you, and evaluate the work that follows.
Enquiries and jobs
Record how a customer found you, whether the scope fits, the estimate and paid job. Keep website/profile enquiries distinct where the evidence allows.
Location-dependent results and changing policies
Search results and platform rules can change. No review count, first-place promise, radius or ranking timeframe is supplied by this guide; recheck Google's rules when updating the profile.
Prepare and verify an accurate business profile
Check identity and eligibility
Confirm the actual operation, existing profile ownership and Google's current eligibility rules.
Complete the field checklist
Record business name, operating/service area, address visibility, services, categories, hours and controlled contact routes.
Use Google's verification flow
Sign in to the managing account and follow only the offered Get verified option and current help.
Check the visible information
Review the profile after verification and correct inaccurate public fields.
Save the review request
Copy Google's review link/QR into the neutral request template without screening or rewards.
Keep the review record
Log requests and feedback privately and check the profile when business details change.

Use these without an account. Enter your own measurements and quotes. Save records on this device or export a copy for your job folder.

Frequently asked questions
Can I have a profile if I work from home?
An eligible contractor who travels to customers can use the service-area route. Check Google's current rules using your actual business setup.
Should I hide my home address?
If customers are not served there, follow Google's service-area guidance and hide it. Do not describe a home mailing address as a staffed storefront.
Can I create separate profiles for every town?
Do not create duplicate profiles for one operation. A separate eligible real location is a different question from a town in your service area.
Which categories should I choose?
Choose current categories that accurately describe your core business. Avoid adding unrelated categories merely to target keywords.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Google's policy prohibits incentivized reviews, including rewards for changing or removing reviews.
Should I ask only happy customers?
No. Use a neutral request for genuine customers without selectively routing only positive reviewers to Google.
How do I handle a negative or fake review?
Reply calmly without private information. Investigate the job record; report suspected policy violations through Google rather than assuming any negative review can be removed.
Will more reviews guarantee first place?
No. Track relevant enquiries and completed work; no number of reviews guarantees a position or a volume of leads.
